13th January 2024 | Food Tour
Dressed in his bright red snowsuit, Knuckles was ready for the day. It was time to be a tourist in our home town and enjoy some of the culinary delights that Malvern has to offer. Faun has a reputation for being the place to go for breakfast/brunch so, of course, that’s where we started the day.

As Knuckles was along for the day, we had to ensure we picked dog friendly places to visit which wasn’t hard as Malvern is full of them, with Faun being no exception. LC booked ahead so we could sit in the dog section of the restaurant. A treasure trove of pastries, bottles of various delights and the friendliest of people to greet you in this cosy atmosphere. RS decided to have the Shakshuka; hearty with crusty sourdough to dip in the flavourful sauce. HT had the Grilled Mushrooms with a side of sausage patty. She admitted that she’d tried it on a previous trip but was so good that she wanted it again! LC opted for Pain Perdu and, after being convinced it wasn’t weird, also added a side of sausage patty too. Indulging in the sweet/savoury American style mix of food, it didn’t remain a side to the dish for long.

After a brief stroll (all walks around Great Malvern are short) we ended up in Dirty D’s to grab some doughnuts (insert doughnut flavours here – can’t remember what they were) whilst LC had her second coffee of the day (no judgement). Dirty D’s, although small and more takeaway style than sit in, has a relaxed feel with the walls adorned with music ephemera. Too full to eat them we decided to sit a moment before heading to our next location.
Just over the road is Bar Limon, a relaxed tapas restaurant offering delightful Mediterranean cuisine in the shadow of the Malvern Hills. So many options to choose from at this lunch spot but the dishes that made the final cut were Nachos, Spinach Croquetas, Artichoke Pinchos, Halloumi Rojo Y Verde, Chorizo in cider and Nini’s Pollo Espanol. Having been to Bar Limon before, RS recommended the nachos, so simple but so packed with flavour. A surprise was the artichokes, having never tried them before LC enjoyed the contrast in flavours. And as HT commented, you can never go wrong with halloumi. Knuckles thoroughly enjoyed meeting the other diners including a baby who was so joyous and kept coming back for kisses.
To walk off our lunch, we climbed Church Street and took in the eclectic delights of Iapetus, a boutique shop offering hand crafted giftware and a beautifully selected range of gift cards. Knuckles was offered a dog biscuit here as well as Rhubarb , where we went after Iapetus. Rhubarb offers a range of carefully selected items including socks, handbags and soft toys. Malvern has evolved over the years and now offers a wide range of independent shops and restaurants for any visitor. As the light faded we had a short pocket of time to drop in on Malvern Coffee Culture so HT could have a hot chocolate and LC picked up a matcha latte. A welcome warm up from the chill of the day.

Our day ended along Belle Vue Terrace in Alturo Lounge, where Knuckles finally laid his head down to rest while we enjoyed a drink. HT had a Strawberry & Amaretti Smash, LC chose Sauvignon blanc and RS stuck to a simple lemonade. We had intended to grab some food while we were there but had filled up too much at Bar Limon so that means we’ll have to venture out on local turf again to try some of the other establishments Malvern has to offer.
